Drake Harbor and Recreation Area

Drake Harbor & Recreation Area

Drake Harbor was named after long-time resident and Mayor of Warsaw, Gordon Howard Drake. It is part of the Corps of Engineers leased-property that the City acquired after Truman Dam was built.

One concrete fishing ramp and three fishing docks occupy the inner harbor area. A restroom facility is located near the ramp and two of the fishing docks are accessible from adjacent inner land areas. In 2002, a four bay boat dock was added, with a pathway leading toward the downtown. Plans for additional bays and an elevated walkway to connect are waiting funding.

The Recreation Area has been expanded in recent years with the help of state, local and federal funding. Playground equipment, gazebo and festival areas surrounded by a walking track are now in place.

In 2006, with a grant of $750 from National Horseshoe Pitchers Foundation (NHPF) four Certified Regulation horseshoe pits were added to the Drake Harbor Recreation Area for public use.

 Steamboat Landing
In Spring of 2010 the City of Warsaw began the first phase of construction on Steamboat Landing; a beautiful elevated boardwalk 10 feet wide by approximately 1000 feet long. This addition to the Water and Trails System, when completed, will have the capability to accomodate 64 boats of various sizes.

Amphitheater and eco-riverwalk areas are planned for the future.

The City of Warsaw has successfully received funding from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources through the Recreational Trails Program. This funding has been used to construct the concrete bicycle and pedestrian paths in the Drake Harbor Recreational Area.
