Building Codes, Permits & Regulations

Building Codes
The City of Warsaw has adopted the International Building Codes 2003 (IBC). This comprehensive building code establishes minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions.

Construction Standards
The City has also adopted the American Public Works Association (APWA) Standard Specifications and Design Criteria as it relates to the Kansas City Metropolitan Chapter. These Standards address a broad range of specifications and design criteria, for example, streets, sewers, sidewalks, lights and other construction related design features.

Building Permits
There is a permit process for all construction. New commercial construction permit fees are generally based on the valuation of the project.  Square footage and cost of the project are considered; fees are based on the lesser amount. New residential permit fees are based on the size and cost of the project. Permit fees for remodeling of commercial and residential structures are also based on project valuation.

Obtaining Permits (within City limits only)
Before any construction, new or remodel begins, be sure to contact Building Permits / Inspections by calling 660-438-5522 to obtain a building permit. You will be asked to fill out a Building Permit Application and submit it for review. After approval, your permit will be issued and construction may begin. This is only within the City limits of Warsaw.
